Spha-T walker scale model: Beginning the construction of the main canon…

Cuando veía las fotos de referencia del Spha-T pensé que esta parte seria bastante fácil, ahora me doy cuenta no. Lo primero que debía hacer era cortar unos círculos que serán la base del cañón principal.


When it saw the reference pics of the Spha-T I thought that this part quite easy, now I realize not. first that had to make was cut circles that will be the base of the main canon.

Luego debía cortar las diferentes piezas que formaran todo este sector y pegarlos a la base circular, antes que nada también debía aumentarles detalles siempre guiado por las fotos del vehículo original….

Next i have to cut the different pieces that formed all this sector and to stick them to the circular base, before nothing also had to increase details to them always guided by the original vehicle´s pictures….

Finalmente uní las piezas y con esto formo la base del cañon… espero terminarlo pronto, quisiera mandarlo al concurso de modelismo de SWRP… veremos si logro terminarlo en tiempo record y veremos cómo me va…

Finally I united the pieces and with this I form the base of the main canon… I hope to finish it soon, it would want to send it to the models´s contest of SWRP… we will see if profit to finish it in record time and we will see how it goes to me…

Walter Kronkite visits ILM

Walter Kronkite fue un famoso presentador, periodista y entrevistador de la cadena CBS de EEUU y fue por muchos años el presentador favorito de los Estados Unidos, tuvo una fructífera carrera hasta su retiro de la tv en 1981, falleciendo en el 2009 a la edad de 92 años, dejando como legado grandes notas y reportajes que forman parte de la historia colectiva de EEUU y de parte del mundo como la carrera espacial, el caso Watergate, la guerra de Vietnam o la llegada del hombre a la luna.


Walter Kronkite was a famous presenter, journalist and interviewer of CBS network of the USA and was by many years the favorite presenter of the United States, he had a fruitful career until his retirement of the TV in 1981, passing away in the 2009 at the age of 92 years, leaving like legacy great notes and news articles that comprise of collective history of the USA and part the world like the space race, the Watergate case, the war of Vietnam or the arrival of the man to the moon.

Uno de sus más recordados reportajes (al menos para el mundo friki) fue la vista de Kronkite a las instalaciones de Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) en el año 1979 mientras se trabajaba en los efectos visuales de el “Imperio Contraataca”, siendo acompañado por el propio George Lucas quien le explica algunos de los procesos que se estaban trabajando en ese momento.

One of his more remembered news articles (at least for the Friki world) went the visit from Kronkite to the facilities of Industrial Light and Magic (ILM) in 1979 while it worked in the visual effects of the “Empire Strikes Back”, being accompanied by own George Lucas who explains to him some of the processes in was working then.

Podemos ver por ejemplo parte del proceso de animación en el planeta helado de Hoth con el títere articulado de Han Solo montado en un Taun Taun mientras se realiza el proceso de Stop Motion, Lucas le muestra algunas maquetas del Millenium falcon una de ellas la impresionante maqueta de 32”, también le muestra algo de la maqueta del Executor y como se logro uno de los efectos del vuelo del Millenium Falcon en una de las ranuras laterales (¡impresionante!) en fin entre otras maquetas y objetos que pueden ver alrededor del taller de efectos visuales.

We can see for example part of the animation´s process in the frozen planet of Hoth with the articulated puppet of Han Solo mounted in a Taun Taun while the process of Stop Motion is realised, Lucas shows him some scale models of the Millenium falcon the one of them the impressive the 32” scale model , also he show him something of the scale model of the Executor and as profit one of the effects of the flight of the Millenium Falcon in one of the lateral grooves (impressive!) so among others scale models and objects that can see around the factory of visual effects.

 
A pesar de la mala imagen y el pésimo sonido este reportaje es para mí un documento histórico para todos los que amamos la saga de Star Wars y los modelos a escala, es un placer recorrer el taller de ILM y mejor aun en pleno proceso de producción de ESB.


In spite of the bad image and the terrible sound this coverage is for me an historical document for which we loved the Star Wars saga and the scale models, is a pleasure to cross the ILM factory better and even in the heat of production process´s of ESB.

Para la gente que no gusta de la música Death Metal, al escuchar una canción de este tipo solo percibirán un ruido infernal; pero tocada en piano por Viktoriya sucede algo muy interesante, su versión funciona como un filtro que aclara todo el estruendo, golpes, y rabia propios del Metal extremo y revela la estructura y melodía oscura, llena de maldad y hermosa a la vez que solo nosotros, los que amamos esta música podemos percibir en medio de todo esa construcción casi sinfónica…. Una melodía.. que fácilmente podría formar parte de la banda sonora de una película de terror psicológico… la interpretación me parece espectacular.. y Robert Vigna el compositor y guitarrista de IMMOLATION creador de esta melodía, es un verdadero genio…

For the people who don´t like of Death Metal music, when listening a song of this kind they´ll only perceive an infernal noise; but played in piano by Viktoriya something very interesting happens, its version works as a filter that clears all the own roar, blows, and rage of the extreme Metal and reveals the structure and dark melody, full of badness and beautiful at the same time as only we, those that we loved this music we can perceive in the middle of all that almost symphonic construction…. A melody that easily could comprise of the soundtrack of a film of psychological terror… the interpretation seems spectacular to me….. and Robert Vigna the composer and guitarist of IMMOLATION creator of this melody, is a true genius…

23- Maqueta Spha-T walker: con las patas puestas.

¡Funcionó! Las patas están instaladas y aguantan perfectamente el peso del vehículo a pesar de su fragilidad.


It worked! The legs are installed and it hold the weight of the vehicle perfectly in spite of its fragility.

Antes de instalar las patas debía terminar unos pequeños detalles que deje pendientes en el proceso anterior… debía darles más detalle a las patas e incluir un pistón en cada pata. Ese detalle lo construí en base a un clavo y unas pequeñas piezas de hisopos...

Before installing the legs it had to finish small details that let slopes in the previous process… I had to give more detail to the legs and include a piston in each leg. That detail I constructed on the basis of a nail and small pieces of hyssops...

Luego de terminado el detallado final instalé las patas en su lugar definitivo. Estaba preocupado por el peso del Spha-T sobre estas pequeñas patas, pero había olvidado un concepto básico de física y diseño estructural: cada pata es bastante pequeña y efectivamente se doblaría con el peso del vehículo, pero al tener 12 patas este peso se reparte uniformemente entre todas reduciendo el peso aplicado a cada una, finalmente cada pata ya no soporta el 100% del peso sino solo 1/12 del total.

After finished the end detailed I installed the legs in its definitive place. I was worried about the weight of the Spha-T on these small legs, but i had forgotten a basic concept physics and structural design: each leg is quite small and indeed it would bend with the weight of the vehicle, but when it having 12 legs this weight is distributed uniformly betwen all ones reducing the applied weight to each one, finally each leg no longer supports the 100% of weight but only 1/12 of the total.

Coloqué un soporte en la parte baja que tenía la altura a la que debía quedar el vehículo hasta terminar de pegar todas las patas con cola sintética a esas piezas que ya había planeado en el inicio de la construcción hace mucho tiempo …

I placed a support in the low part that had the height to which it had to be the vehicle until finishing sticking all the legs with synthetic glue to those pieces that already had glided in begin of the construction long time ago …

Al día siguiente retire el soporte y mágicamente el spha-T dio sus primeros pasos… al fin el Spha-T se sostiene en sus patas… lo siguiente será iniciar la construcción del cañón principal con lo que por fin entro al final de este proyecto.

On the next day i retires the support and magically spha-T took his first steps… finaly the Spha-T maintains in its legs… the following thing will be to initiate the construction of the main gun and so finally I enter at the end of this project.

Palillos chinos Star Wars de Kotobukiya

En el Perú somos grandes consumidores de comida china, o mejor dicho de “chifa” que es el nombre que se le da aquí a la mixtura resultante de la comida china tradicional traída por la gran inmigración china en combinación con ingredientes peruanos… esto dio como resultado esta excelente comida a la que llamamos “chifa” y que por cierto me encanta.

In Peru we are great consumers of Chinese food, or rather of “chifa” that is the name that occurs here to the resulting mixture of the traditional´s Chinese food brought it by the great Chinese immigration in combination with Peruvian ingredients… this gave as result this excellent food that we called “chifa” and that by the way it enchants to me.

Y pues siendo fan (fronterizo) de Star Wars y amante del chifa nunca imagine que estos 2 gustos aparentemente desconectados podrían unirse de algún modo… y es que cuando vi este anuncio no lo podía creer…. me refiero al lanzamiento por parte de la compañía japonesa Kotobukiya de sus inusuales palitos chinos con forma de sable laser de diferentes personajes de la saga de StarWars.

And then being fan (border) of Star Wars and loving of chifa never it imagines that these 2 apparently disconnected tastes could be united of some way… and is that when I saw east announcement i could not believe it…. I talk about to the launching on the part of the Japanese company Kotobukiya of its unusual chopsticks with form of lightsaber of different characters from the StarWars saga.
